After her accident in Spokane, WA, Monica is amazed that none are around except for Sir Henry, her Royal Advisor, who must escort her to her new kingdom of Midrealm, which she had never known existed. She is immediately wished to her castle, taking four nobles and three maidens for her personal court, and headed towards the gathering of her coronation to be the first queen of Mindrealm in thousands of years. Meanwhile, Lord Neeprin has been manipulative in other areas, putting himself in place to overthrow young Queen Monica.
After Monica's coronation, the castle, which just happens to be floating above the ground, settles as the prophecies have always stated, forcing the new Queen to choose the seven others to join her in spending a week inside the mysterious dwelling. A free-floating apparition tells her of the game that will determine her success or failure, and it must be completed before the week's end.
Once the deposed Witch becomes involved, Queen Monica finds herself in a battle that she would never have thought possible from her sensible upbringing in the world of twenty-first century Earth.
